In 2019, Ms. Zhu, who was nearly 40 years old, embarked on a long journey of expecting her own baby .
From Tianjin to the United States, she experienced nearly 9 failed IVF treatments. In 7 attempts in Tianjin, she was told bluntly by the doctor: "I'm afraid there are no children in your life." Even so, she didn’t give up.

Never say never and keep fighting in different country across the Pacific Ocean
After moving to the United States, Ms. Zhu went through two more IVF treatments, but still had no luck. Just when exhausted physically and mentally, she met a "Hu fan" friend (fan of Dr. Hu YuMing) in the States by chance, and was introduced to Dr. Hu Yuming in Taipei Fertility Center (TFC). This fateful encounter turned to another new chapter in her life.
With Dr. Hu’s thorough and professional diagnosis, Ms. Zhu started a six-month treatment. Despite poor ovarian function, she successfully obtained 6 eggs with precise medical help. After the first implantation of 3 embryos, twins were successfully conceived at once!

Turning ‘IMPOSSIBLE’’ to ‘’POSSIBLE’’’.
After pregnancy, Ms. Zhu had pregnancy toxemia and high risk of premature birth. Under the advice of her obstetrician, she chose to stay in Taiwan to rest and labor. At the end of April 2020, she successfully held her healthy twins with open arms, a boy and a girl, and became a mother of two babies.

A strong MOM outbeat Covid-19 and all objectives
However, the outbreak of the epidemic brought new challenges. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, Ms. Zhu's husband or family were unable to obtain entry permits to Taiwan and could only care for her remotely. She chose to face it alone and prepared to return to Tianjin with her two newborns alone.
This journey was full of unknowns and challenges, but also full of human warmth. After hearing the news, Dr. Hu ran around to seek help. Fortunately, with the company and help of the warm flight attendants of EVA Air, Ms. Zhu successfully completed customs clearance and baggage collection. She had a green light all the way and finally returned to Tianjin safely to reunite with her family.
Although this story of "Expecting a child across thousands of miles" was full of hardships, it was also full of love and hope.

Keep fighting with TFC
Let us wish Miss Zhu all the best, and hope that everyone who is still working hard can be encouraged and find their own answer to happiness.
TFC will be your faithful partner fighting together !!

Dr. Tzeng Chii-Ruey, founder of Taipei Fertility Center (TFC) and the father of infertility treatment in Taiwan, witnessed a 31-year life full of miracles

Dr. Tzeng being a family friend for more than 3 decades to welcome 2 new family members, the baby boy and the daughter in law (the baby boy’s wife !)
31 years ago, Dr. Tsang, successfully helped "Sister Zhung (Ms. Zhung)" and her family turned on a new chapter of life, welcoming a baby boy. The baby was born prematurely at 27 weeks and weighed only 1,100g at birth. He lived in an incubator for 93 days and experienced many life-and-death moments. Now, he has grown into a sturdy groom weighing more than 100-kg and is ready to get married. Dr. Tseng was also invited to join the wedding to witness this miracle of life spanning 31 years.

Let’s give us 4 opportunities to try, said Sister Chung and dreams to true after 2nd treatment
When Sister Zhung was 35-years-old, she faced the challenge of infertility, from fertility treatment to successful pregnancy. At that time, Sister Zhong, focused on her professional life/career with her husband after 11 years of marriage, but she also looked forward to being a mother. Knowing that it was not easy for her to get pregnant, she came to Dr. Tzeng through a friend's introduction and embarked on IVF treatment. Although the first implantation failed, the couple agreed: "To have 4 tries or to travel around the world!" They took the results easy. Fortunately, after the second implantation, she was successfully pregnant, 2 of the 4 embryos implanted, and finally gave birth to a baby.

Persistence, key to get through everything
In the middle of pregnancy, Sister Zhung was still busy with work and ignored the body's warning signals. In the 24th week, severe uterine contractions occurred, and the fetus had slipped out of the cervix by 6 cm. After being rushed to the hospital, she was sutured to save the fetus, but she still had a caesarean section in advance at the 27th week.
The baby, who weighed only 1,100 grams at birth, was full of tubes and wires inserted, and could not even eat on his own. The medical team had predicted that the chance of survival was slim, but Sister Zhong insisted on not giving up. After 93 days of careful care, the baby boy was finally discharged safely and embarked on his own life journey.

Sister Zhung own reflection: each child is an individual and the parents need to learn to let go
From the moment the child was born, Sister Zhung understood profoundly that what parents can do for their kids is accompany and support. She chose to respect the child's choice and life rhythm, without setting limits or over- controlling from her own point-of-view, and let him explore and experience life freely.
Now, he has become an independent and confident adult, ties the knots with his wife and owns his life journey.

For who are still fighting
"Throughout our life, we may not get the expected results in spite of hard work. If pressure can help you move forward, bear it bravely; if it only increases pain, learn to let go and treat yourself and those who love you well.
Having a child is not the only answer to life. What is important is that no matter what the result is, choose to go on with love and courage."

"The arrival of a new life should be full of joy, why is it so painful?"

Freda used to be resistant to "becoming a mother" because of the fear of losing freedom, taking medicine and injections in order to expect a baby.
Until turning 37 years old, she was finally ready to open up another new chapter in her life being physically and mentally ready (grown-up).

However, after four years of preparation for pregnancy, including having a balanced diet, running a regular schedule, and exercising actively, there was still no good news. No abnormalities were found in the hospital examination.
The first IVF experience, 32 eggs were retrieved in another hospital, 9 blastocysts were successfully cultured, and 2 embryos that passed PGS were implanted - but it turned out to be another heart breaking disappointment.
On that day, Freda burst into tears in the cafe. But she quickly wiped away her tears and said to her husband, "I want to try again."

Changing the right doctor changed her fate
In less than two weeks, she came to TFC and met Dr. Shunren Tan.
"After the first lesson, I know how important it is to choose the right clinic and doctor. IVF is not as simple as taking medicine. It requires personalized precision treatment."

In the second treatment at TFC, Freda retrieved 25 eggs and successfully cultured 8 blastocysts, and 3 passed the PGS test.
This time, she only implanted 1 egg and got pregnant! "Once and for all", ushering in the long-awaited good news of pregnancy!

2 months vs. 6 months ??!!
Suffered from urticaria for more than 6-months, Traditional and Chinese and Western medicine synergized to relieve the symptom in 2 months.
Freda recalled she didn’t find the IVF treatment itself painful. Instead, she was terribly bothered by "urticaria" that keeps recurring and being itchy, which ended up many sleepless nights.

Since the first IVF treatment, she has been suffering from urticaria almost every day, and has consulted many dermatologists but no significant improvement
During a follow-up visit, she couldn't help but reach out to Dr. Tan for help, "You could try traditional Chinese medicine." advised by Dr. Tan.

So, with the help of Dr. Lee Hezhen from the TFC Chinese Medicine Department, a 6-month suffering was relieved in 2 months through acupuncture and thread embedding treatment.
"Dr. Li is very attentive and caring. She checked my condition thoroughly every time before she carried out acupuncture, which reassured me that this is really a personalized treatment."
Until graduation of IVF treatment, Freda continued to have Traditional Chinese medicine treatment as pregnancy care and passed the early pregnancy smoothly.

Freda’s wholehearted encouragement to friends who are now having IVF treatment:
The journey of expecting a baby is a psychological battle. Every stage of waiting is not easy. But as long as there is love in your heart, you can grind out the crystallization of your love.

Just believe in yourself!
Infertility is not a terminal illness. The baby just chooses to come to you in another way - IVF.
Go forward bravely, and happiness will definitely come to you.

Dr. Chang changed our lives—truly, even the destiny of our entire family.
For Ms. Chen, who was over 40, this wasn’t an exaggeration—it was a heartfelt expression of gratitude after years of twist-and-turn and mental stress. After countless failed attempts to conceive, she finally got pregnant and gave birth to a healthy baby with the help of Dr. Chang. This also allowed her mother, who was battling pancreatic cancer, to fulfill her last wish—seeing her grandchild with her own eyes.

Repeated setbacks at other clinics, treatment constantly interrupted
During her fertility journey at other clinics, Ms. Chen faced numerous delays in embryo implantation due to uterine polyps and fibroids. Doctors were concerned about implantation risks and had her undergoing repeated surgeries to fix. Each phase, from removing the polyps and fibroids to post surgery recovery, was an emotional and physical suffering.
"I was originally scheduled for an embryo transfer in March, but because of recurring polyps and fibroid issues, it ended up being delayed for half a year." With both age and time working against her, her greatest fear was that her ailing mother wouldn’t live long enough to meet grandchild.

Returning to the starting point of trust, opening up a brand new chapter.
After much inner struggle, Ms. Chen remembered Dr. Chang, whom she had consulted years ago at Taipei Medical University Hospital. In May 2024, she brought her records and came to TFC, seeking out Dr. Chang once again. After carefully reviewing her past medical reports, Dr. Chang sincerely asked, "Are you willing to start over from the beginning with us?"

This time, she chose to trust.
Dr. Chang tailor made Ms. Chen had an entirely new treatment plan: 7 eggs retrieved, embryos successfully cultivated , and after PGS (Preimplantation Genetic Screening), embryo transfer was done on July 4th, and she got pregnant on the very first try and it took her less than 3 months.

Well balanced warmness and professionalism: a doctor who walked with her through the hardest times
Ms. Chen shared that Dr. Chang’s calm demeanor and gentle manner made each of her appointments very reassuring. He remembered every detail of her previous visits, which meant a lot to someone who had gone through repeated delays and setbacks.
She once considered transferring two embryos to try for twins, but Dr. Chang advised against it due to risks associated with advanced maternal age, blood pressure, and fetal health. At the end, she did experience blood pressure and amniotic fluid issues during her pregnancy—making her grateful she had chosen the safer path.

Not just a life changed—but a whole family’s hope restored
Ms. Chen said with deep emotion: “This child’s arrival was not only the fulfillment of my dream but also my mother’s final wish.” This joy was a shared transformation for the entire family.
She also wants to encourage other parents trying to conceive: “Even if you're older or your AMH level isn't ideal, don't give up. Seek medical help early, follow professional advice, and take it step by step—there is always hope and success is still possible.”

From meeting and falling in love in Tokyo to building a family together in Taiwan, Mr. Lin and Ms. Park's Taiwan-Korea love story turned on another new chapter with a family of three.

In 2018, the two chose to settle in Taiwan after getting married. Ms. Park is an elegant Pilates coach from South Korea, who currently teaches in Taipei. At first, the couple did not plan to have children in a hurry. It was not until the outbreak of the epidemic (Covid-19) and the slow pace of life that they began to actively prepare for pregnancy in 2021.

Mr. Lin recalled, "in fact, my wife had an experience of natural pregnancy, but she lost the baby due to ectopic pregnancy, which hit her body and mind impactfully". During such down time, a friend of Ms. Park successfully froze eggs at TFC and recommended her to come for consultation. Unexpectedly, this trip to TFC became an important starting point for changing their lives.

"She went to TFC without telling me at first!" Mr. Lin said with a smile. Thanks to her friends' recommendations and authentic testimonials, Ms. Park quickly built up her trust and confidence in TFC.
Professional, personalized and heart-felting treatment and interaction make Ms. Park felt like home.

In mid-2022, they started IVF treatment, which was treated by Dr. Wang Ruisheng . "Dr. Wang is very kind and amiable. We later learned that he is a Chinese from South Korea," Mr. Lin shared, "Every time my wife came back for a consultation, Dr. Wang would communicate directly in Korean, which not only made her feel more at ease, but also fully understood the details of the treatment."
In addition to the linguistic consideration, Dr. Wang also specially prepared professional materials in Korean, making the entire treatment process very smooth and friendly for non-Chinese speaking patients.
Although the first IVF attempt failed in November 2022, which brought some disappointment to Ms. Park, Dr. Wang did not give up and immediately adjusted the medication regimen and replanned the ovulation cycle and treatment rhythm. With trust in the doctor and support for each other, the couple finally received good news in April 2023 ! Successfully got pregnant and graduated from the clinic.

“It is really necessary to keep a calm status during the pregnancy preparation process, and keep the mood and body in the best state to increase the success rate." Mr. Lin said emotionally.

Last question to Mr. Lin, "How can one become the best teammate of a wife?"
Mr. Lin answered humorously: "It's very simple, gentlemen, meet all her needs, don't ask anything, just take out the card!"

With the support of a professional team, each other's company and trust, this journey from South Korea to Taiwan has become the most gentle and firm road of hope in their lives.

’ I didn’t expect so many difficulties during the attempts to have a 2nd baby since the experience of the first one was quite smooth".
At the age of 30, Mrs. Chen successfully welcomed her first child. Yet unexpectedly, when she planned to welcome the second child three years later, she went through two years of suffering from infertility.

Life is full of twists and turns. Dr. Chang partnered with Mrs Chen despite she was suffering from Adenomyosis
In those years, her health status deteriorated. Every time during her menstruation, she suffered from back pain and even premenstrual fever. After medical examination, "Chocolate Cysts (endometrioma)" were found in both ovaries and she was diagnosed with "Adenomyosis", which resulted in her infertility. Yet life is a journey with all different surprises. Coincidentally, through the introduction of her mother-in-law, she met Dr. Chang Yien in TFC, and what was even more surprising is that Dr. Chang's father was the obstetrician and gynecologist who delivered Mrs. Chen's husband. This cross-generational ties made her full of trust and peace of mind for the treatment.

You need keep the faith and be persistent throughout the treatment
At the beginning, it was not easy to accept the fact that "I might be infertile."
But after spending half a year changing mindset, Mrs. Chen chose to trust Dr. Chang's expertise and cooperated with every step of the treatment.
The biggest challenge in the process of expecting a child is to get along with all physical discomfort.

Ovulation injections, suppositories, and egg-breaking injections before egg retrieval, each injection requires deep breathing and self-hypnosis, and she was even unable to give the injection smoothly due to nervousness.
Loneliness and frustration have become part of daily routine, and sometimes, any unintentional word from any other casted an invisible pressure.
"Injections are easy jobs and why does it take you so long?", "I've been taking care of our elder child, your sole task is to get injections regularly and timely, what else do you expect?"
These seemingly understated words are a heavy blow to her who is trying to have a child.
Thus Mrs. Chen can totally relate and wholeheartedly hope those who are undergoing infertility treatment can get more understanding and support from their families.

‘God helps those who help themselves’ and it is TFC to make everything so smooth and easy
Mrs. Chen successfully conceived her second baby with just one shot in TFC !
She thought it’s TFC makes the treatment much easier with all well-designed and thoughtful single details, including (but not limited to)
• App push reminders, clearly knowing what to do at each step
• Cozy and considerate environment, allowing rest well while waiting
• Doctors and nurses are warm and cheering, making people feel at ease and relaxed

"Dr. Chang and the nurses listened carefully and cheered me up at the perfect timing during each clinic visit. On the day of the implantation, the nurses chatted with me enthusiastically, which relieved a lot of my tension. After the implantation, Dr. Chang also personally gave me ‘the lucky candy’ (wishing a smooth and successful pregnancy), which made me feel full of blessings."
Mrs. Chen’s sharing to everyone on the same journey
"The road to having a baby may be hard and long, but as long as you believe in your doctor and stay optimistic. Oftentimes, the light is just at the end of the tunnel !"

#TFC Success Story #Next mom-to-be

Shu-Han has been married for two years and doing all the preparation for pregnancy for over a year, but there was still no positive news. And then, she began to feel physical changes with getting elder. "I was 38 when married, and now looking back, I’ve turned 40 already." She mentioned that her knowledge of fertility was actually quite limited, and many details about the body, like ovarian function and sperm quality, were the things she only started to learn throughout this path.

Before coming to TFC, Shu-Han had undergone a uterine polyp removal surgery and discovered a decline in ovarian function. In order to not miss the golden window for pregnancy, she started to explore every possible treatment. By chance, she and her husband joined a TFC IVF public lecture, where they not only learned a lot about fertility planning and the high correlation with age but met Dr. Xing-Hui Huang.
During the one-on-one consultation after the lecture, Dr. Huang’s patience reassured them, and it was also when they decided to start a full medical examination and their fertility journey at TFC.

The challenge of self-injection
“The ovulation injection was okay, but the trigger shot (Pregnyl for Injection / Ovidrel/ HCG/ Decapeptyl) was really suffering." Looking back at the fertility treatment, Shu-Han was most grateful for her husband’s support. He helped administer the ovulation shots and pampered her through the suffering of the trigger shot. “The trigger shot is a mixture of both liquid and solid, and when it goes in, it’s really uncomfortable. I even shed a few drops of tears.”
Although the mounting-up pressure of physical suffering and the time constraint made her want to give up from time to time. With each other’s encouragement, they persevered.
“The part I was most afraid of was actually the waiting after the egg retrieval,” she confessed. Waiting for embryo cultivation and the test results is like a final school exam or SAT for them. Following the doctor’s advice, they performed a PGS test. Although she knew that women over 40 typically need 6 embryos to get 1 healthy one, they were lucky enough to get a qualified embryo on their very first attempt

The Warmness and Reassurance from TFC
When talking about TFC, the couple still remembers it vividly: “The clinic doesn’t remind me of a hospital; it is more like a warm cozy space to relax.” They reserved appointments during weekday evenings to avoid crowds and feel more at ease. Especially Dr. Huang Xing-Hui's patience and attention to detail made the fertility process feel less foreign and anxious.
Dr. Huang didn’t rush to proceed with embryo implantation. Instead, she suggested Shu-Han to get her best physical condition/energy level first to make sure the uterine lining reached the ideal thickness before taking the next step. "Our goal is to succeed with one try," she said. The husband also took high-dose Q10 to improve sperm quality, which is truly ‘team work’.
They also referred to genetic testing (PGS mentioned above) results. When certain gene variations were discovered, Dr. Huang carefully explained the findings and confirmed that they wouldn’t impact pregnancy, which reassured them and made each step more manageable.

Anticipating the new life milestone
Now, Shu-Han is successfully pregnant. Though still a bit nervous, she was grateful and forward-looking.“Dr. Huang reminds us of all the specifics at each stage, which helps us stay calm.” They’ve already picked out a nickname for their baby—“Little Six,” inspired by a character from a film, symbolizing wisdom and composure, and it carries the parents’ full blessings for their child.

To every family on such journey
Walking though the journey, Shu-Han would like to share with other couples who are trying, “Trust the doctors, and trust your body. Medical technology is really advanced now, and as long as you take it step by step, you won’t feel as anxious.”
Her husband added, “At TFC, my wife takes the lead, and I’m just her supporter.” He said that they treat every check-up like getting together with an old friend, learning more about their bodies, and adjusting their lifestyle and tempo along the way.

Both of them admitted this isn’t an easy journey and takes mutual support and understanding. “If one of you feels like giving up, the other needs to pull them through. Don’t let them fight alone.”
Finally, they hope every family on this journey keeps moving forward bravely, believing in themselves, and having their persistence paid out.

It has been a long journey with all difficulties you never thought of
I started my fertility treatment when I was 38, a year after getting married, and delivered my first child at 40 after 1.5 years of treatment.

TFC is different, starting with a thorough fundamental test to dive deep

After undergoing two rounds of intrauterine insemination (IUI) at a different hospital, I was not happy about their treatment approach and decided to transfer to TFC. Unlike the previous hospital, where they simply performed ultrasounds and IUI, TFC started with a comprehensive blood test. That’s when I learned that my AMH hormone level was significantly lower than the standard range, and I immediately kick started IVF.

This is ‘MY’ treatment. It’s truly personalized precision treatment backed by cutting edge technology

Even when fertilized eggs were created after egg retrieval, chromosomal abnormalities were found through PGS testing, making them unsuitable for transfer. It wasn’t until the fifth egg retrieval that we finally got one fertilized egg that could be transferred. Since it was the only viable embryo, I also underwent an ERA test to determine the optimal day for the transfer.
Although the costs added up, I truly feel it’s worthwhile to undergo preimplantation testing, as it enables efficient treatment without wasting time. I was surprised that chromosomal abnormalities were found in the embryos during every PGS test.

This is ‘OUR’ fight. I was breezed with heartfelt warm doctor-patient relationship

My limited Chinese made it hard to fully understand the complex medical explanations, which was frustrating at times. However, with the encouragement of the trusted Dr. Tan and the nurses, I was able to graduate from fertility treatment.
Maybe due to my elder maternal age, I developed pregnancy-induced hypertension and ended up giving birth prematurely at 28 weeks. But my baby is growing strong and healthy. Everyday I feel happiness and gratitude, comforted by my baby's smile.
Dr. Tan, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!!

In pursuit of a beloved child, this brave mom came alone from Japan to Taiwan to have the artificial fertility treatment. With the precise, professional medical care and medication prescribed by Dr. Ho Yen-Ping, Deputy Director of TFC, Taipei Fertility Center, Ms. Li successfully got pregnant—her little bunny baby is on the way!

“Having a child is part of the family dream my husband and I share.”
My husband and I have lived in Japan for quite some time, and we are both the only child in our respective original family, which is why we hold high expectations of having our own child after getting married. To us, a complete family includes children—we truly believe a child would bring more richness and colors to our family life.

Years went by after marriage without good news of expecting, I consulted a fertility clinic in Japan. After discussions with doctors there, we decided to try IVF, but unfortunately, it wasn’t successful (after several tries)… Even Japanese doctors agreed artificial fertility treatment in Japan is not as advanced nor is a focus area, resulting in few artificial fertility treatment clinics, which is why they recommended going abroad to Taiwan or the U.S. given higher success rates. With the recommendation from my Japanese doctor, and considering the proximity and cultural similarities, my husband and I decided to go to Taiwan for IVF.

Dr. Ho Yen-Ping is both detailed and considerate
My treatment is in the good hands of Dr. Ho Yen-Ping, the Deputy Director of TFC. I truly felt that he is a very dedicated doctor. Every time I entered his consultation room, he always had a warm smile that made me feel at ease and reassured. He is not only highly professional but also incredibly attentive—he always remembered the details of my condition and medications.
His ultrasound technique is outstanding. In contrast, when I had vaginal ultrasounds done by Japanese doctors, they were rough—as if using a samurai sword—with little regard for patient comfort. But at TFC, I could really feel Dr. Ho’s kind consideration and thoughtfulness. The service overall was also excellent, making me feel safe and was taken good care even in a foreign country.
Never give up—believe your baby will come
IVF is truly a tough journey, especially for someone like me who is afraid of injections. I felt like I endured so much… I still remember the day I got the results. My husband, even though he wasn’t allowed to use his phone at work (phones must be kept in bags or handed to supervisors), secretly messaged me to ask about the result. When he found out I was pregnant, he was so excited and said he was really looking forward to the arrival of our child!
After seeing the baby’s tiny hands and feet, all the pain and struggles paid out. To all the moms out there—hang in there! Don’t give up. Believe that your baby will come to you.

“After 11 years of relentless efforts and time, I once broke down crying at Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. I’ve lost count of how many times I cried over fertility issues in the past decade.”
Vera, now 39, recently delivered her first baby. Once a cancer patient, she is now another success story from Hong Kong, thanks to Dr. Tseng Chi-Jui at TFC.

#Diagnosed with cancer at young age without fertility preservation
Vera’s journey to motherhood was long and challenging. At 19, she was diagnosed with late-stage leukemia and immediately began chemotherapy. Back then, there was little awareness or medical practice around fertility preservation. To aggressively fight cancer, doctors used strong medications which saved her life—but also led to premature ovarian failure.
In 2013, Vera began pursuing fertility treatments at public hospitals in Hong Kong, undergoing IUI (intrauterine insemination), but with no success. Then in 2014, her husband was diagnosed with cancer. After his recovery, doctors told them they had to wait five years post-treatment before starting fertility procedures again. But when they returned six years later, they had to start over from the waitlist.
Vera explained that in Hong Kong, there aren’t many fertility clinics, whether public or private. Each treatment cycle costs HKD 60,000–80,000, and the medication approach is often conservative. Only one embryo is implanted per cycle, making the success rate relatively low.
Eventually, Vera found information about TFC online and learned about Dr. Tseng’s accomplishments internationally. That’s when she decided to seek treatment in Taiwan.

#TFC showed me that fertility treatment can be warm
“In Hong Kong, fertility treatment feels clinical and ‘disease-focused,’” Vera shared, comparing her experiences in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
She said she was anxious before coming to Taiwan because past experiences in Hong Kong hospitals were stark, sterile white spaces with the smell of disinfectant. But at TFC, she was met with a bright, welcoming space filled with warm wood tones—nothing like the hospitals she was used to. The doctors were professional, yet the environment felt comforting.
“The moment I met Dr. Tseng, everything felt different,” Vera said. In Hong Kong, medical staff had once told her bluntly, “You won’t be able to have children,” and even handed her adoption paperwork, urging her to give up. But during her first consultation with Dr. Tseng, he just said tenderly, “Why can’t you have a child? Who says you can’t?” That one sentence filled her with confidence.

#I realized I wasn’t alone
“After my egg retrieval surgery, Dr. Tseng was about to leave the OR, but then turned back just to say ‘Good luck!’ That moment made me realize—I’m not going through this alone.”
Vera mentioned that her egg freezing process wasn’t smooth, but even through three rounds of egg retrieval, Dr. Tseng never pressured her. He always encouraged her and gave her strength. And finally, she succeeded in just one embryo transfer, giving birth to her baby in September this year.

#Vera shared her heartfelt TFC Experience
Finally, Vera shared this message:
“Back then, I cried my heart out at Prince of Wales Hospital. In the past decade, I’ve shed countless tears over fertility. I deeply understand the pain of the IVF journey. I hope my story helps couples choose the right path and avoid unnecessary setbacks. ❤️”
“In Hong Kong, I felt coldness—from the environment, the people. Every visit felt like I was there to treat an illness, which brought immense pressure. But in Taiwan, at TFC, I constantly felt warmth.”
She added that even small details made a big difference, like:
Being addressed by name (not full name)

Continued follow-up after treatment
Gentle ultrasound exams that considered the patient's comfort
Nurses caring for both her physical and emotional wellbeing after egg retrieval
Providing a comforting meal post-procedure
“In short, I felt being well taken care —both physically and emotionally. These things really helped me go through the IVF process.”

“We are deeply grateful to Dr. Ho for his invaluable assistance in identifying where our problems stem from and providing effective solutions, which ultimately led to the successful arrival of our precious baby. Dr. Ho has not only been our medical caregiver but also a great source of mental support and encouragement. He is simultaneously the problem solver and the tower of strength to us. Sometimes, I inevitably got a mental breakdown, but Dr. Ho always maintained a gentle yet firm attitude, urging us to keep moving forward during our IVF treatment. I couldn’t ask for a better doctor than him!”

“You have no time to waste”.
I still remember that phone call from my GP in Melbourne Australia.

“If you plan to freeze your eggs, the AMH reading is not looking great at all, you have no time to waste”.

“You’d better quickly look up a specialist to speak to, and don’t wait, just try to get yourself an appointment with anyone available from the recommendations.”

From a happy, healthy, and seemingly fit woman, all of a sudden, I was told I have not much time left.

When I was told about the news, I was shocked, lost but also confused - what does that really mean though?

I almost felt that my body was breaking, or even rotting because of my body clock and at a rate that I have never experienced before.

I still have no plan to have kids any time soon, but I also do not want to regret later if life circumstances change in the future.

I tend to have this kind of impromptu idea do something ground-breaking or life changing whenever it’s before or after a significant life event, last time was to get my eye laser surgery done in Taiwan, after breaking up with my ex.

This time, I just wanted to make a sensible decision and plan, that has its limitations with age.

Egg freezing has always been on my mind for years.

Yet everyone around me says to me, “you’re still young! Go get a boyfriend then you won’t need to worry about this anymore”.

Who would have imagined, the next thing I was told is that “you have no time anymore.”

First extraction - Australia

Now I look back my first experience in Australia, was quite a daunting process with little that I was explained - I used to have quite a lot of faith in Australian medical system given my last 20 years of living in Australia and my early years in Hong Kong.
Comparatively, I deem myself as very fortunate, I experienced the best out of the 2 places I call home, before I experienced what is better in Taiwan.

I trusted what I have been told was all I needed to know.

However, along the way I was very much in lack of support; when there was so called a hotline you can call, a lot of times I had to stay calm and critically analyse myself with limited information available either through the IVF service, available reading materials and even publicly on the internet when as YouTube, there was just nothing that I can resort my queries to easily as it seems everyone’s experience is different.

From first consultation till operation, it only spanned across a few weeks - that’s an effort after me trying to speed up the process wherever possible.

Finally, the operation was done. I woke up the news from the surgeon who reported to me a very puzzling result. I had no idea how to digest it but to only console myself, it’s better than nothing.

During the recovery period, I went through bleeding, waves of pain from unknown causes and even related or unrelated infection. It was sort of bearable so more I was unsure to classify my experience as serious enough to see medical help or not even I tried to follow a one-pager of when to either call the clinic, page the doctor or straight to the emergency.

I I only tried to survive till my first check up with my specialist 2 weeks after, again, as I was advised to just having to schedule that in 2 weeks after the extraction. I just followed, believing this operation must be of low risk and that is all I require.

“Your pain should have nothing to do with the egg freezing. So, you let me know when you’re ready for the next extraction.”

That specialist appointment only went for less than 5 minutes, and it could have been even shorter if not that I went prepared with list of questions, including what could have caused the mismatch of number of follicles from the last ultrasound report and that

there was just the next day; there was only so little eggs and what I could do differently next time. Yet, they were all futile effort as they were all summed up by this:

“You should be happy that there are some. Have a think about it and let me know when you want to do it again.”

I walked out of the consultation room with mixed feelings, a sense of loss, frustration, and self-doubt.

I wondered if the bottom-line expectation is nothing, then what if I try with someone else or even somewhere else. What more I can do is not to simply rely on whatever I was told and given here.

I need take control of this.

I decided to expand my research on this topic with a global perspective and exhaust all that I know, and I can.

Why Taiwan?

Taiwan stood out to me as the first resort, as I recall my successful eye laser surgery back in 2014. I have long heard about the positive experience of receiving medical services in Taiwan, from a lot of news and articles, even friends around me.

A lot of my Taiwanese friends would wait until they can return home, to get their bodies fixed basically - even from dental appointment or their annual health check, to minor procedures and even major operation. They would rather endure the pain until they can return home.

I never used to understand them, and I even once joked about their being a “baby”.

“Come on, be an adult and you’re in Australia already. Stop revert everything back home!

I must admit Taiwan is not the only country that offers egg freezing procedure but after balancing all factors including affordability, medical and technological advancement, and possibility of receiving support from friends and family in case of emergency or even repatriation, Taiwan was unparalleled. After all, even if I got enough in the end, I know I would still enjoy the sight-seeing and reconnection with a few friends.

There’s a Chinese saying, 沒有比較就沒有傷害 - Compare and despair.

I can spend another thousand words on how I landed on choosing Taipei TFC but my experience with them was just top notch.

From my first contact - the fact that I could even contact them via WhatsApp, till landing myself in Taipei to my seeing my specialist for the first time, the whole journey was very smooth, transparent and I felt I was well supported.

Not only everyone I was put in contact with speaks fluent English but all relevant materials, information on their website and their awareness of geographical factors and limitations were something I would not ask for, but they have them all.

A lot of things that I have never imagined in Australia, they are “basic” in Taiwan:

1. All medical appointments from making appointment, check-in and through to completion, everything is app-based. You can even have access to your medical record almost immediately by yourself. In Australia, it’s a fee for service, and you have to wait.
2. After checking in, you just follow the instructions in the app, like treasure hunt, to complete all necessary medical assessment such as blood test prior to the appointment.
3. Every step of the way is guided and time sensitive, everyone along your appointment journey is servicing you, they read your record before speaking with you.
4. They have assigned assistance to look after overseas patient and not 1 person but a team of them!
5. After the operation, the doctors and nurses take turn to check on you. They say “辛苦了“ (You’ve done well). You are given a meal of your choice, yes there are 5 options to choose from and before you start enjoying the meal (and the view from your recovery room), the specialist is ready to tell you the result of the extraction.

A lot of things I considered basic in Australia, they are “unbelievable” in Taiwan:
1. You go to different locations for “different things” - initial medical appointment, specialist appointment, blood and urine test, ultrasound check up and buying medications. Some supplements you can only get them from compounding pharmacies.
2. You must email and ring up different clinics or authorities to obtain your own medical records, there is usually fee and long waiting period involved.
3. You are only given repeated and limited information even from the specialist. There was only limited information online you can refer to, and it is very hard for me to discern what is reliable out there.

4. Most importantly, you may not get the specialist who you’ve been investing your money and trust throughout the consultations to perform the procedure on the day. Good luck with whoever gets rostered for your day.
5. After the operation, you get awakened, as if you are occupying the bed for unnecessarily long. You get stale and dried sandwich, a piece of cookie with a cup of tea but only if you ask for it, otherwise, water only. You are asked to go home asap and wait for a phone call in the afternoon from the embryologist.

Experience can be subjective so for those result-oriented readers:

The number of mature eggs extracted without any scientifically significant change in my AMH level was more than 3 times more than what I had in Australia, and there is only 1 month gap between the 2 extractions.

Let the story continue!

After this experience, I just wanted more people like me do not feel despair but DO COMPARE! Sometimes alternatives are out there for those who seek, and different results can be achieved by simply looking for second opinion or even just give yourself a chance in a different country.

The positive experience I had throughout the process, the relieving result of the egg extraction or simply everywhere I have been to in Taiwan, including all the good food, nice people and beautiful sceneries in Taiwan (I managed to travel around Taipei, Jiufen and even Kaohsiung) came as a package for this success, or even if it reached my bottom line of expectation, I know I would still be winning and smiling.

All in all, I was grateful for the medical and supporting team in Taipei TFC, especially Dr Lee Yi-Hsuan, for looking after me. Thanks for giving me an opportunity and a “home” for my weary soul who has been exhausted in looking for options during this once I believed was a rat race.

When I totally respect the merits, and pros and cons in any circumstances including the medical systems in Australia and Taiwan, I know I always have a choice.

And I have chosen to return to Taipei TFC for my second extraction in November.

I can’t wait to share my next chapter of this journey - when I will have to be in consultation with both local medical team in Australia and in Taipei as I do not have the recommended 15 days to stay in Taipei for the full procedure.
